The week is more than half over! That is tremendously exciting.
I forgot to update my blog yesterday. Boo on me. I might have to update it twice today. I’m making something yummy for dinner for me and Greg. Maybe I’ll take a picture of this and have a teaching/food blog. Cooking is really my escape after long days of teaching…
I got my 8th graders under control today. That made me feel proud. Basically I told them how it was going to be:
- We raise our hand to speak
- We speak French (in French class)
- We respect the classroom we are in
That seems pretty simple. Once I started giving students “warnings” and threatening them with phone calls home, they shaped up quickly.
I also came up with a new system for organizing my lesson plans. Even though it is redundant, I have my plans written out for every period. I am teaching the same thing multiple times (six sections of beginning French, for example) but writing it out for each class should let me check off what I’ve done and keep track of exactly where I am.
It seems that after all the “orientation” and “housekeeping” stuff, I should be able to actually start teaching French tomorrow. I’m excited about that. We’re going to learn about the Francophone world… they speak French in places other than France, you know!
