Bill Maher

Tonight, your show, A TELEVISION SHOW, convinced me that I was wrong. I don't know why I supported Hillary Clinton. Maybe it was out of loyalty. Maybe it was because I think so much of her husband.

Barack Obama can win. Easily. Hands down. No contest. I don't think Hillary can. And I don't know what it is about her. What did she do? Apparently there was some health care thing. I was too young to remember. But you know what? She voted for the War in Iraq. SHE VOTED FOR THE WAR. And one of Bill Maher's guests, Matt Taibbi, explained why (and I'm paraphrasing): "The Democrats just didn't want to be wrong. They thought, just in case there's peace in Israel and gas is fifty cents a gallon, I don't want to be the guy who voted against the war."

And really, that's what politics is. It's about not being the guy who fucked up. It's about making as many people as possible agree with you, even if what you're saying is total bullshit. I AM SICK OF THAT. And so is America. I'm ready for someone who will tell the truth, and that is what Barack Obama will do.

I want the United States to be out of Iraq. Immediately. And Barack Obama is the only guy who can do that, who can just say "Hey, we're leaving now, sorry we were here in the first place, carry on with your lives, we made a mistake, this is your business and not ours." And it's true. Iraq has nothing to do with us. Nobody voted us the world police. And just because we are, arguably, the most powerful nation in the world does not give us the right to tell everyone else what to do.

That's what Bill Maher is saying. And that man is right. He likes truth and not bullshit. And you know what the biggest lie, the biggest bullshit ever fed to us has been? Religion. Religion is the reason for all the wars in the world. Ever. Seriously. Religion is the reason we can't get along. But you know what I think about religion? Fuck it. And you know what I think about "God"? Nothing. There is no way we can know. So why do we fight over it?

CALLER: "Hi. Well, my question is, the Lord spoke to me approximately three years ago, and if the Lord spoke to you [Maher], I was wondering if you'd become a believer."

MAHER: "No, I'd check into Bellevue, which is what you should do... You, like all religious people, have a neurological disorder. And the only reason why people think it's sane is because so many other people believe the same thing. It's insanity by consensus."

I totally agree. Thank you Bill Maher. Let's stop killing each other over things we will never know, nor understand, at least in this life.

Vote for Barack Obama. He can win. He can change the world. And this world, as John Mayer would say, is just waiting on some change.
